In this unit, we will be studying Latin American nations. This includes Mexico and Central America, Caribbean Nations, and South America. This region has a fun and unique history!
Chapter 9: Spatial Inequality in Mexico - From Cardboard to Castles
In this chapter, students learn about the process of urbanization and the patterns of inequality that exist in urban areas.
Objectives
Students will
• identify causes and consequences of urbanization.
• explain how spatial inequality affects people living in Mexico City.
• examine standards of living around the world to understand that spatial inequality exists on a global scale.
Chapter 12: Land Use Conflict in the Amazon Rainforest
In this lesson, students learn about groups that have competing interests in how to preserve and use the resources of the Amazon rainforest.
Objectives
Students will
• examine groups that have an interest in the preservation or use of the resources of the Amazon rainforest.
• analyze and discuss a series of questions to help them understand the competing viewpoints of these various groups.
• investigate ideas from around the world about how to address land use conflict in the rainforest and determine which would be most applicable to the Amazon region.

Extra Credit: Latin America Travel Brochure: Due: JANUARY 25TH
Introduction
In this unit, we are learning about Latin American countries. Now, it is your turn to further explore this region!
Task
For this project, you will research a country in Latin America and create a travel brochure, trying to attract tourists and other visitors. Many countries in Latin America are already tourist destinations, but for some of these countries, you may have to be a bit creative.
Procedure
Use your Geography Alive! textbook and the internet to research your country. Complete the Country Profile sheet to organize your information. You may always add additional information to make your brochure more complete. Use art materials or a computer program to create a brochure. This should be a professional travel brochure serving as an advertisement for your country.
Requirements
Please be sure to review the rubric both during and after completion of your brochure. Check to make sure you are fulfilling all of the requirements necessary to earn extra credit!
The travel brochure should make your country look like a fantastic travel destination. Remember to highlight the best parts of your country and be as creative as possible. Your travel brochure should be neat, colorful, and informative!
