We will be introducing students to 7 habits to help them become better learners and more successful students. In sharing these proven habits with students throughout the year, I hope to promote leadership, responsibility, teamwork, problem solving, positive communication, and many other skills that I hope will help them both in and out of school!
Helpful Parent Tips:
a. Let your child communicate with their teachers (send an email secretly but don’t tell the child!)
b. Check teacher websites and Power School OFTEN.
c. Teach your child to use their planner.
d. Review planners and teacher websites with your child at least twice a week and update their planner as needed. This helps plan their homework and study schedule.
e. Go through this child’s class folders together every week and purge, organize, etc.
f. Communicate with teachers as needed. Email is usually best.
g. Read every class syllabus together with your child.
h. Let your child fail. Most students will get a bad grade at some point. Use the bad grade as a learning opportunity to teach better time management, study skills, etc.
i. Help your child to organize and understand class projects that are assigned. Guide the child through the research, draft, etc.
Student Tips:
a. Listen to your teachers
b. Listen to your parents
c. Ask for help
d. It’s OK to be stressed about homework. Planners help reduce homework stress.
e. Make good choices.
f. Talk to your parents about your concerns and anxieties.
